Memorial Hike 2023

Join the SV Trailblazers for a 25km Memorial Hike to mark our Formation Day on Feb 15. After a minute silence at Kranji War Memorial, hikers will walk to important Corps locations across Singapore, ending at the Cenotaph. Hikers are expected to wear army boots and carry a load of no less than 10kg.

FAQs

    1. Load. Participants must carry either a 10kg or 15kg load for the hike itself.

    2. Pack. You may carry any suitable rucksack (either military or civilian) that can carry the required load.

    3. Field Pack. Any hikers using SAF-issued field packs must camoflage them with rain covers.

    1. Footwear. Participating hikers must wear SAF-issued boots.

    2. Long pants. Long pants must be worn for this hike. No shorts allowed.

    3. Top. Hikers are allowed to wear any top for the hike itself.

    4. Steadfast and Vigilant T-Shirt. All hikers must bring this t-shirt along for formal observances and photos.

    5. No military attire. Beyond SAF-issued boots, no military attire should be worn.

    1. Training Programme. You will need to train for this hike both in your own time and by joining our regular hikes to prepare for the distance and load. We have provided a sample training program as a guideline. Whether you use this or not is up to you but.

    2. Qualification Hikes. There will be Qualification Hikes organised where we will advise on your suitability for the main hike.

    1. All hikers are required to qualify by participating in the 3 Qualification Hikes leading up to the Memorial Hike.

    2. The Organising Group reserves the right to deny participation to any hikers they feel have not trained sufficiently for the Memorial Hike or represent a health risk.

    1. Kranji War Memorial - Observance. Hikers to form up and conduct an Observance. Led by Alex Martin.

    2. Former Ford Factory - Observance. Hikers to form up and observance to honor fallen Volunteers. Led by Adric Ong.

    3. Maju Camp (Outside) - Water Parade. Hikers to form up and do a full water parade and a Pledge Recital. Led by Alex Voss.

    4. War Memorial - Laying of Wreath. Hikers to form up for Observance, One Minute’s Silence and finally a Laying of Wreath. Observance and One Minute’s Silence led by Mifie Gunawan. Wreath layed by Ng Huilian.

    1. We will be operating a mobile aid station with 2 support volunteers. This will include hydration, refreshments, first aid and other facilities to support a safe hike.

    2. The mobile aid station will be available at each rest stops.

    3. Call for aid can be initiated by any hiker.
