Code of Conduct

SVx Events can be dangerous activities if not done safely. There are a number of variable factors that may be at play coupled with the physical duress component. Our activities are events that require trust and respect, and we expect all participants to contribute to a safe environment for all.

Alcohol or Drug Usage at Non-Social Events

  1. Alcohol and drugs can impair judgement and physical co-ordination to unsafe levels for participants.

  2. Do not arrive at our events intoxicated or under the influence of any alcohol or drug. If you suspect that this might still be the case at the start of a hike, please inform the event organizer.

  3. Consumption of alcohol is not permitted from the start of the event to the end of the event.

  4. We have a zero tolerance policy relating to drugs. Suspected possession or use of any illegal drugs will result in the you being asked to leave the event immediately.

Mutual Respect

  1. Any acts of violence, physical or verbal, or any threatening or bullying behaviour, will not be tolerated. This applies to other participants at the event, or members of the public.

  2. Sexual harassment of other participants or members of the public will not be tolerated on our hikes.

  3. Conduct which is offensive, which harms morale, or which interferes with the effectiveness of our events — for example: lewd or vulgar remarks, suggestive comments, comments regarding a person’s body, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, displaying derogatory posters or drawings, pressure for dates or sexual favors, and inappropriate and/or unwanted physical contact or exposure — is prohibited.

  4. We strive to conduct our events safely with respect for all regardless of gender, age, religion, sexuality, culture, or ethnicity.

Safety

  1. Any behaviour that endangers other participants and members of the public will be taken very seriously and may result in removal from the event.

  2. Do not put others at risk. We expect participants to look out for each other and take safety seriously.

In the event of an emergency

  1. Each SVx event has safety protocols and emergency procedures in place. For their own safety and the safety of other participants, participants must adhere to the instructions of the event organisers (e.g. OrgGroup, Team Leaders and Group Leaders).

  2. In the event of an emergency, first aid may be administered and other immediate steps taken by event organisers who are not licensed medical providers. While we make an effort to ensure that qualified people make the most informed decisions possible, judgments must be made in the event of an emergency situation at the event.

  3. We encourage participants to be vigilant in regard to their own safety and the safety of others. Participants may perform “Good Samaritan” actions, or actions taken to assist fellow participants during emergency situations on an event. However, we do not encourage or expect you to jeopardize your own safety or that of others in attempting to rescue or assist your fellow participants.

Right of Refusal

  1. SVxSV and its event organisers reserve the right to refuse a member's participation in an event at any time due to safety concerns, logistical limitations or in the interest of team compatibility.

Right of Dismissal

  1. A participant is subject to removal from the event if:

    • The participant’s behavior compromises the safety, objectives or general performance of the team;

    • the participant has misrepresented his or her qualifications, for example an undeclared or understated medical condition (whether physical or mental), which could compromise his or her safety or the safety of anyone else; or

    • the participant has violated a stated policy or law.

  2. In the event of dismissal, the participant will be responsible for making and paying for any necessary travel, or other arrangements associated with departure from the event.

All Participants participating in SVxSV events must read and understand the Event Participation document before participating.

It is the Participant’s responsibility to choose an activity that is suitable for their condition and level of fitness. You should not participate if you are not in good physical condition, or have any history of heart problems.

SVxSV and its event organisers reserve the right to refuse any person that are judged to be unprepared or unsuitable to participate.

Participants will be responsible for costs incurred that are not covered as part of the package.

Participants are responsible for their own safety and must show consideration for the safety of other members participating in the event.

Participants must accept that the event organiser has authority to make the final decision in any situation.

Participants must act in an appropriate manner, and respect local law and customs.

Safety is the first priority.
